Build It Michigan Strong
Letter: Don’t forget about the damn roads

Michigan has gone through an unforgettable experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, but there is something else we should not forget: fixing the damn roads.
While our pre-COVID lives have been on hold, the deterioration for our roads, bridges and infrastructure has not been paused. Michigan had the worst roads in the nation before the pandemic and they are only getting worse by the day.
Worse yet, both state and local government budgets have taken a huge hit due to the coronavirus, leaving less funding to rebuild infrastructure. We need bold, creative reforms to stretch our remaining road funding further, such a creating uniform statewide rules that increase access to road building materials, helping to keep construction costs down.
Michigan can’t afford to forget about repairing our roads or our economic recovery will take even longer.
